There are ways God will test us in our trust of him. Just hope it doesn’t involve maggots.
Once Israel was free of Egypt, they needed to be free of the slavery in their hearts. God had to re-train them in trust. One of the tests was providing food for Israel as they made their way out of Egypt and toward the Promised Land.
Manna was the provision. The deal was this: Every day all Israel had to do was go out in the morning and pick up the manna. Tough task.
Except on the Sabbath. The day before the Sabbath, they could double up. There wouldn’t be any manna on the Sabbath.
The other test was this: trust the Lord for the day. Don’t try to keep it overnight.
Again, it’s a test. God will test his people. Do you trust him?
However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell. So Moses was angry with them. (Ex. 16:20)
Day by day we have to learn to trust God. We have to trust his provision. We have to trust his weird methodology.
Lord, teach me to hear. Teach me to trust. Give THIS DAY the bread I need. Amen.
