“Jesus walked the earth rehumanizing the dehumanized and cleansing the unclean. Why? Because his heart refused to let him sleep in. Sadness confronted him in every town. So wherever he went, whenever he was confronted with pain and longing, he speaks the good contagion of his cleansing mercy.” — Dane Ortlund, Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers
I’m weary of the anger all around. I’m weary of Jesus being cast as a God who is “always angry” and some anger must be satisfied before his wrath pours out. I’m weary of all the ways we make Jesus into some fighting machine. He did fight. He was angry. He had an enemy he fought and bad religious leadership that angered him. But around people? He healed hurts. He repaired damage brought on by bad religion and power and greed and control.
I want the heart of Christ.
