A prayer for renewal

Two statements showed up on my timeline back to back from different sources and they call me to prayer.

The Church is to be a people who have learned to love one another in a world that hardly knows what love is. ~ Stanley Hauerwas

“IF THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS WITHDRAWN FROM THE CHURCH TODAY, 95% of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95% of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference.” — A W Tozer

My prayer is that we move from Tozer’s very obvious statement (and even prophetic considering this was written decades ago) to Hauerwas’s hope. We live in a world that hardly know what love truly is. Our tragedy is that the American Church too easily reflects that same mentality. May we move to Jesus’s call to love one another.

“Last Third Living” (my new mantra): How will I live out the last one-third of my life?
