Pray Without Ceasing
To pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17) has always been a tough phrase to grasp. There are so many interpretations on Paul’s words. Do we continually pray in some way? Is there a way to always hold ourselves in prayer?
Some thoughts:
1. Pray the Word.
Have Scripture in your heart and mind…yes, MEMORIZE… so phrases or verses come to mind and you can meditate on them prayerfully. Let those verses come from your heart back to the Lord.
2. Allow thoughts to become prayers.
If I am thinking of family members I can then turn them over to the Lord in prayer. My mom and two brothers-in-law are battling physical ailments right now. As my thoughts turn to them, I can release them to the Lord.
3. Do not give up on prayer!
I liked this thought from John Piper. Just keep praying! When answers don’t seem to come…KEEP PRAYING!
4. The Jesus Prayer
At times throughout the day allow these prayerful words come to your mind: “Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me.” There are so many times I need to think about his MERCY! It also resets my mind and draws me back to my dependence on him.
