Jesus will always divide the house
As I work my way through John, and Gary Burge’s commentary in The NIV Application Commentary, I am struck by Burge’s notes on the alienation Jesus will create. Jesus will ALWAYS divide. We can make our claims about “if Jesus were here he would obviously take up MY view and thus all sides would have to agree with me,” but in…

The small things we do
If we could possibly move away from doing things that we only think are good enough to post on Facebook, think of all the things we actually DO that bless people in the name of the Kingdom. When you think about all of us as believers simply living out the Kingdom in some small way… it is a huge payoff.…

The obligation of the Kingdom
Reflecting on society, laws, cultural wars… and having a lot of time to think while I was driving across Iowa… I began to think on what I practice but do not articulate very well. I am not sure I can still articulate it well, but this is my attempt. No matter what laws are passed or are not passed in…

Thinking on the obligation of the Kingdom of God
A thought I want to develop: My obligation to the kingdom of God calls me to treat any human being with far more respect than any culture here on earth could possibly demand of me.

When the shoe is on the other foot…
Now, the call from the “left” is that it’s time to stop calling “fundamentalists” Christians. Which is okay, I suppose, because “fundamentalists” have thought “liberals” weren’t saved a long time ago. So… no one is the Kingdom now. Do we feel better now? There is no amount of pleading right now I could do… or anyone… to keep the shouting down. We’re…

When Christianity in America will finally grow up
We will realize the true power of the gospel in our lives when we, as Americans, give up our “right” to “win” and be willing to look like we’ve lost. Right now, all we want to is “win.” Win an argument. Win a court case. Win public opinion. When we’re willing to lose… THAT is when we find a better path…

Duck Dynasty, Chick-fil-a, etc.
We are really in trouble. I mean it. When I eat or don’t eat at Chick-fil-A, my decision is fraught with the the thought, “What if my church denomination finds out I’m not eating there?” What if I don’t watch “Duck Dynasty?” Or, worse, what if I do? I am not kidding. We are in real trouble. Putting a coin in…

Let the Madness Begin
We just can’t seem to help ourselves, so we’ve made the mad rush on Thanksgiving now. No more real days off for holidays that just about everyone could celebrate. Individually, we can choose to not shop. However, so many families will be effected because of family members who have to work on Thanksgiving now. Let the madness begin!

Thanksgiving Day Shopping?
So the “horrible” news is that even Macy’s and Penney’s will be open on Thanksgiving night. People are “horrified.” Here’s the thing: they will open because SOMEONE… and a LOT of someones are going shopping! So, if you are upset, don’t “petition.” Here is a novel thought: JUST DON’T GO. If everyone “upset” by this news did NOT show up……
