The Great Hope of Advent
We have entered into Advent. It is a time of longing. This season brings a renewed sense of longing for the second coming of our Lord. Each year brings a new perspective to me. Sometimes it is remembering his first coming and the longing of Israel. This time it is a longing to see the Lord truly come in justice.

Keeping perspective
It is good to camp in Isaiah 40 from time to time. In an age where it is easy to be upset because of whatever economic or political situation is going, we need the long view. We are not satisfied with the long view any longer, which is why I need Isaiah 40.

Trustworthy friends
My Daily Office readings have me in the Book of Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) currently. This is a time I am appreciative of translations like the Common English Bible that help those not so common passages (to me) make more sense.

Why I use a personal trainer
I wrote on three areas of transformation in my life that have added to my base of spiritual formation. (HERE) One area I focused on in another post was the benefit of a personal coach at this point in my life and career. (HERE)

Our great calling
Matthew 5:14–16 (NIV): 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others,…

Grief unfolding
The communal grief (even though this verdict was a foregone conclusion) is real. I watch it unfold real time as the Kyle Rittenhouse “not guilty” verdict was announced. All I am left with is… HOW LONG, O LORD?
