Lent is a season of contrition. It is sensing the sin against God and dealing with the ugliness. We have fallen short of the glory of God and there is a feeling in that, not just a forensic fact to have presented in court.
It is easy to believe the lies sin will tell us. We get comfortable. Too comfortable.
God must create in us new hearts. Lent is a season to recognize how comfortable we have become with sin.

The release we need in repentance is a call to return to our first love. It is a holy pursuit. Grace is given all the time. Lent is a season to concentrate on that remembrance, that grace, and that holy pursuit once again.
