The Church

I love the Body of Christ. We’ve done a good job of messing up the vision of Christ’s body in the conservative evangelical church in America, yet… there is this magnificent Body of Christ that endures and thrives all over the world.

This hymn was used in our Second Sunday of Lent and one verse in particular stood out:

’Mid toil and tribulation,
  And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
  Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
  Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

The ending verse in this video was different from the hymn we sang, but it is powerful as well:

Yet she on earth hath union
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
In love may dwell with Thee.

There are schisms. There are heresies. And there is a beautiful place where the people of God gather to be one in Christ.

I am thankful.
