Jesus unpacked the power of the Kingdom of God in the Sermon on the Mount. It is a fuller explanation of what he proclaimed at the end of Matthew 4. The Kingdom of heaven is at hand! (To which we would say, “What does that mean?”)
The Sermon is not disconnected statements. Each part leads to the overall picture of what Kingdom life NOW is all about.
“So far from being additional laws to crush us or show us we can’t make it on our own (of course we can’t!), the separate parts are distinct perspectives on the sweet life of love and power, of truth and grace, that those who count on Jesus can even now lead in his kingdom.” (Dallas Willard, The Divine Conspiracy)
Jesus is giving to us the instructions on how to live out our days and hours in our ordinary lives as we journey to the full world of God. He gives us how human life can really work in the fullness of the Kingdom.
It is a sweet life of power and truth. Wholeness can come to our broken world.
