I was so fortunate to preach at our church, Church of the Apostles, this past weekend. My subject was on the resurrection life and how it impacts prayer. If you haven’t witnessed a more liturgical service, I invite you to watch the entire video. My message begins around the 19:12 mark.

It is still Easter
Today is Easter Tuesday. We are always so quick to drop the celebration or continuance of an event once the day has passed. Being in a liturgical church has reminded me that Christmas isn’t one day but 12 that take us to Epiphany. Easter is a season of celebration from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday.
He is RISEN
The more I have walked in the tradition of Lent, then through Holy Week, the more I have fallen in love with Easter Sunday. OH! RESURRECTION! I get up early and put on songs of resurrection and power and wide open praise. For years it was Ron Kenoly and “Jesus is Alive.” I still danceContinue reading “He is RISEN”
Holy Saturday
The tomb is sealed. We know the end of the story, so we want to rush on. We want to see that stone rolled away. But it’s Saturday. It is silent. It is dark. That stone laughs at us. Death wins. We don’t know the end of the story on Saturday. Sit in the darkness.Continue reading “Holy Saturday”

Easter is for fools
Christians, at their best, are the fools who dare believe in God’s power to call dead things to life. That is the testimony of the Black church. It is not that we have good music (we do) or excellent preaching (we do). The testimony of the Black church is that in times of deep crisisContinue reading “Easter is for fools”
Resurrection Power in the time of coronavirus
I am a Christian today not because it answers all my questions about the world or about our current suffering. It does not. And not because I think it is a nice, coherent moral order by which to live my life. And not because I grew up this way or have fond feelings about feltContinue reading “Resurrection Power in the time of coronavirus”
What is freedom?
“Freedom in Christ is to be released from perpetual inner conflict into ‘the glorious liberty of the children of God’ (Rom. 8:21) where we are enabled to live, not by our own tyrannical wishes, but for the love of others.” — Fleming Rutledge
The risk of the resurrection
We have been recruited, through the resurrection, to go into the Father’s “business.” It is the forgiveness business.
