Understanding context and rethinking Paul

I have believed in women in ministry for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a Pentecostal denomination that had ordained women from the beginning, it was at first assumed in my thinking, then solidified by study over the years as I continually ran into people who didn’t think women should be ordained.

There are so many contextual/historical issues to consider in the few verses offered by those who hold to keeping women from ordination and we continue to default to a “tradition” held by longstanding historical (not necessarily biblical) actions by the historical church.

This podcast episode goes into the research Dr. Sandra Glahn has done on Ephesus, the Temple to Artemis, and Paul’s desire to see something different happen in church leadership. I will change no one’s mind. I get it. Nevertheless, the depth of research done by Dr. Glahn is a joy to hear.

  1. The Church needs men, real men, self-sacrificial men, men who look like Jesus.

Women are wonderful. The Church doesn’t need women. The Church is lousy with them, always has been, always will be.

But the Church needs men, men who will lead like servants, men who love women and children the same way that Jesus did and does, men who will lay down their very lives in love . . . like Jesus did.

    1. As I said… I won’t change anyone’s mind.

  2. Don’t be so sure. :v
