The further abuses of our false “national religion”

The Party of Trump… excuse me, the “Republican Party”… debate last week was only something that was worth watching clips that were entirely predictable. The sad scene of almost every candidate raising their hand to say they would potentially support a convicted felon who orchestrated an attempted coup if he were the party’s nominee in the general election was only the latest low point. Don’t worry, more will follow in the months to come.

Another low point was the false piety in attempting to invoke America as God’s great Christian nation, a “shining city on a hill.”

Kaitlynn Schiess writes:

Our misuse of city on a hill is representative of a common failure to interpret the Bible for our political lives—when a verse exhorting the people of God to faithfully serve the world gets twisted into a defense of American dominance. Even our genuine efforts to let Scripture inform our political lives can easily become props for whatever political positions we already hold.

More HERE.

We are in for more abuse of Scripture by politicians. It is the Christian Nationalists who need to be called out. They also need to sit down.

That only happens when WE THE PEOPLE actually do the job we were intended to do. We’ve reduced our “duties” to a lousy vote. It is more than that. We’re just too lazy.

So, politicians will continue to spout the dog whistles you want. I will continue to call out us as people. I can’t blame the politicians. They’re only doing what we demand of them so they get that one lousy vote we hold as our sole responsibility as citizens of this country.
