The absence of words doesn’t change reality

This podcast with David French really needs your attention. I know those who don’t claim to be Christian Nationalists (and are) and those who are bold enough to SAY they are Christian Nationalists (with their alternative meaning) won’t take the time.

My appeal is fellow believers who are about my age and are tired of speaking out.

I’ve gone through my rage phase and all that. What I’ve done has been to sit back far too much. At most I’ve raised the issue of the next election with, “Well, the POT (Party of Trump, because I’ll NEVER call them GOP again) is stuck and maybe the frontrunner won’t be as abrasive (which is a lie, but all I can muster).”

It’s me and this particular strand of people like me who need this episode. I need to speak up more.

I need to be able to say to my POT voting friends:

It’s not that you should wish folks like Trump would be “less abrasive “. It’s not that you shrug and “hold your nose and vote.” It’s to understand the poison beneath the surface full of fascism, misogyny, racism, totalitarianism, and more. And then vote that way anyway?

And then, because they won’t listen to the podcast, I need the details of what David French walks through to come to my mind and I need to lay it out.

The facts of the frontrunner’s thirst for fascism… in his own words.

The facts of his (and others in the POT) misogyny (and how is spills over into the “evangelical” conservative world), because it does.

The stated facts of what the plan is in regards to totalitarianism. Racism.

All of it.

And let’s be clear: you don’t need the words “I am a racist” to be said to identify someone as a racist. The absence of words doesn’t mean the absence of the reality.

This is dangerous stuff.

And to those who say (with data to back it up) that “it’s a small percentage,” I need to point back to January 6 and remind us all: It was a “small percentage” that almost stormed the Capitol building successfully, came within minutes and very few yards of capturing the Vice President, and could have successfully put us in a Constitutional crisis.

So… NO. I don’t wish the frontrunner would “be a little nicer.” I wish the POT would wake up and realize they’ve handed the keys of the world’s longest running, most successful form of, democracy in history and let the totalitarian throw his fit and drive that car into the ocean.

I mean… this American experiment will fade. History shows it.

I just don’t want it going down this way… with me being this quiet.

You vote for him and others in POT, you vote for misogyny, totalitarianism, and racism at the core. Just because (for my conservative friends who think “pro life” is only about abortion) voting any other way is a vote for abortion.

Excuse me. I need to extend my rant.

Not “any other way,” for conservative white Christians are by and large dualistic thinkers. I say, “Don’t vote for the POT frontrunner” and they think, “OH, so you’re voting for the baby killers!”

I am not chained down to dualistic thinking. I refuse the way of this current system. And if we could all get back to the work of “WE THE PEOPLE,” we’d find better solutions than the options we currently face. But… “we the people” are too lazy and too willing for fascists and totalitarians to step in and lead the way.

There needs to be more stepping up from the silent folks like me.

I have to do it. At least there can be a record as this all burns down.

  1. Dan, did you ever read “Life And Fate” by Vasily Grossman? If you haven’t, you may want to do so, because we are living it. The thesis of the book written by a man who lived it in his time is that fascism and communism are mirror images of each other, sort of like the choices Americans had in the 2016 and 2020 United States presidential elections and probably will have again in 2024.

I agree with you that our house is on fire. You aren’t the first one to notice. God help us. https://youtu.be/_3eC35LoF4U

    1. Btw, here’s the haiku that you and David Byrne inspired in me this morning. https://lousyhaiku.blog/2023/08/04/lousy-haiku-138/
