Two surprising reads

Two books I recently finished on Audible were very pleasant surprises for me

After Evangelicalism: The Path to a New Christianity by David Gushee was a good listen. He spoke not only from his own experience but how he wrestled theologically with issues. His approach was not hateful toward evangelicalism he had “left behind” (I couldn’t resist), but he focused on far more than just issues of sexuality, which is where these kinds of things tend to settle on and then beat the drum loudly. There was far more to the book than I first thought.

Handmade: Creative Focus in the Age of Distraction by Gary Rogowski was also a pleasant surprise. I now need to find a good hobby, which make me laugh and cringe all at the same time, but the book itself was a great listen. It takes in the art of Rogowski’s craft, woodworking, and his love, hiking, and gives valuable life lessons in the process. I’m terrible at art, the arts, crafts, mechanics, well… anything with my hands, but I got over the guilt and enjoyed the audible book anyway.
