In my upbringing in a Pentecostal denomination, Acts 6 wasn’t about “deacons.” I’ve learned in the Anglican tradition that they hold those chosen in Acts 6 to be deacons.
I have been ordained a vocational deacon in the Anglican tradition and have come to embrace the ministry of deacon and how I see Stephen in fresh ways. Stephen didn’t just serve tables. He cared for the marginalized. He was gifted in teaching. He was full of the Spirit. In his last hours facing death he saw the face of Christ.
I will embrace fully this ordained ministry and I am thankful for the example of Stephen. May my witness show the glory of our King and be a witness to the power of the Spirit.
