Clanging Cymbals

If I speak in the tongues  of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,  but do not have love, I gain nothing. (1 Cor. 13:1-3)

It’s noisy. In the world. In the church world. We’re full of ourselves. We create more noise. We self-promote. We do a lot of good… and then make sure it gets promoted and blasted out. We are full of noise.

What we lack is love. The kind of love demonstrated in Paul’s life and in the life of Christ. Not our definitions… but a gut level commitment to the goodness of the Kingdom and the flourishing of humanity.

It’s noisy and the clanging really bothers me. Especially the clanging about in my own life. So much noise. No wonder I have this dryness in my life. These Ancient Wells are bringing fresh water to my soul.
