I heard a preacher say (probably more than one preacher): Moses spent 40 years thinking he was somebody; 40 years knowing he was nobody; and 40 years discovering what God can do with a nobody.
Moses had an amazing range of training. 40 years in the king’s palace will provide the best of the best in education and leadership methods. Then, it was 40 years in Midian with sheep. Both skill sets are useful in pastoring, but it is the desert that gives perspective. Moses needed the perspective. So do all church leaders. May we reach the day where we can freely say “pastors” again instead of leaders.
We all need the perspective of the desert and leading a few sheep.
