We CAN make a difference

I read Just Mercy almost two years ago and it has added to my education on racial justice. The movie is out and I have not seen it yet, but will write more when I have seen it.

This article shows how Christians should be involved in the injustice of our criminal justice system.

But THIS quote is necessary to ponder:

The US not only has the highest rate of incarceration in the world, we also have more people locked up than any other country in the history of the world. We also have more jails and prisons than degree-granting colleges and universities. In some areas of the country, there are more people living behind bars than on college campuses. Native Americans, Africans, Hispanics, and Southeast Asians are all grossly overrepresented within our justice system. EJI (Equal Justice Initiative) found that for every nine people executed on death row, one is found innocent and released.

We have change that is needed. Bryan Stevenson decided not to sit in silence. He has used his training as an attorney and has now implemented the arts to tell the story. We need to be more than “inspired”, though. We need to find ways to ACT.
