Being people of the Presence

2 Timothy 3:1–5 (NIV): But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—5 having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Welcome to the American Church. 2019.

A friend put it into words that rang true for me. As the American Church, we’ve become good at the presentation, but what has happened to longing for the presence of Jesus?

We too often have the form of godliness and have long forgotten what the power of God looks like.

Lord, forgive us. We’ve allowed the spirit of this age to corrupt us. We are far too often lovers of ourselves. Let your Holy Spirit shine in our darkness and bring power and glory once amen. Amen.
