No wonder they wanted to shut up Jeremiah

I am working through a hard passage in Jeremiah related to some writing I’ve called “Living in Babylon.” I’ve avoided getting to deep into this passage because of the direct implications it has on the American Church… and I have no interest whatsoever in being “wacky prophet guy.” But… God has turned me into “wacky prophet guy” and I’m not very happy about it.

The crux of Jeremiah’s message was to take the discipline of the Lord… all of it. Not some modified “probationary” period, but the whole measure. Not only that, but Israel was to (get ready for this) bless the enemy.

7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. (Jer. 29:7, NIV)

This was counter to every normal reactionary bone in Israel’s body. This is counter to every normal reactionary bone in our American Church body. We aren’t “losers”! God created us to WIN!

There is so much more to what this passage is saying… and what the Lord is trying to do to prepare the American Church for what is ahead. Yet, Israel refused to listen. The American Church refuses to listen.

And I understand why they wanted to shut Jeremiah up.

Who needs that kind of “loser” mentality around?
