Spiritual giants are in transition. Dallas Willard a few years ago. Today, Eugene Peterson.
His influence is so immensely felt in a generation of pastors across all denominations. There are so many wonderful tributes pouring in through great writers. This tweet from someone named Brooke Anderson (@brooklyn_town) beautifully describes what Peterson did in my own life:
I grew up in a well-meaning (as they all are), biblically “sound”, white-washed tomb. Peterson hung pictures on the walls, put bread in the oven, and wine in my cup. He turned phrases that I (and others) used as weapons to guard my tomb into Food that revived an empty heart.
His writings have refreshed all of our souls. I so deeply want to be a part of a generation that somehow takes up that mantle. I have learned to feast in the presence of Jesus because of these giants. I need to learn so much more.
