Jesus isn’t afraid of the hard questions. We like to think we’re not afraid of the hard questions… but we don’t ask hard questions. Not like Jesus.
The rich young ruler comes to Jesus in Luke 18 and asks what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. Jesus’ probing is what kept him from full commitment.
The question is this: Do I really want to know what it means to follow Jesus? Do I really want to know… from Jesus… what it means to be all in?
Honest answer? Not really.
The rich young ruler had it nailed down… until…
“You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (v. 22)
It is not enough to declare on our own, “I’m following Jesus! I’m all in!”
We need to pause and look at Jesus and let him determine if we are truly “all in.”
We have to face the hard questions.
The essentials beyond religion to relationship. Oh Lord, awaken us all day by day, moment by moment….
