Exo 33:18 — Exo 33:20 (NIV)
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
The power of this story is NOT the experience of seeing the glory of God. The significance of this encounter was God revealing more of his name to Moses. The experience could fade.
Knowing God because you know his name brings trust. It is trust that will carry us through life. Moses didn’t live experience to experience. He lived in the knowledge of the NAMES of God.
