Words matter

What we say matters. I’m not careful enough about this. I need those reminders on a consistent basis that what does come out of my mouth is only from the abundance of what is in my heart (Luke 6:45).

Those who guard their lips preserve their lives,
but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. (Prov. 13:3)

Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:5-8)

The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit. (Prov. 18:21)

33 Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned. (Matt. 12:33-37)

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Eph. 4:29)

Lord, our words matter. They reflect the deepest part of who we are. I struggle with the care of words. I struggle with the internal battles that lead to careless words.

May our hearts be more full of YOU and less occupied by this world. May our hearts be saturated with Kingdom treasure so those treasures come out. Let us live in BLESSING and abundance, for your Kingdom’s sake and by the power of your Spirit. Amen.
