The astonishing capacity to know God

17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, will give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation that makes God known to you. (Eph. 1:17)

God has done what was impossible for the Law, since it was weak because of selfishness. God condemned sin in the body by sending his own Son to deal with sin in the same body as humans, who are controlled by sin. He did this so that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us. Now the way we live is based on the Spirit, not based on selfishness. (Rom. 8:3-4)

We do not need to wander around in the dark trying to “feel” our way into knowing God. The resurrected Savior has given all that is needed to know him. Sin has been dealt with and when we step into that confession of Christ’s actions, we find freedom.

Not only are our lives set free from the bondage of sin, but we are gifted with an astonished capacity to know God. Not stumble around trying to figure things out… but know him.

The more we walk with him, the more that reality unfolds in front of us. Realize that “walking with him” doesn’t mean “how many years I’ve been a Christian.” It means… walk with him. Daily, allow the written Word to sink in so the Living Word can speak. Daily, pray the Word so you hear this amazing capacity gifted to us come out of your mouth!

Lord, enlarge my understanding. Stretch my thinking. Let the power of the written Word consume my mind. When the written Word is flowing through my mind, the junk of this world gets shoved out. I have a lot of junk. I need a lot of Word! Let your Spirit stretch me to capacity! Let the Word flood through my thinking so I can better walk with you! Amen.
