Knowing it is well with my soul

13 A joyful heart brightens one’s face,
    but a troubled heart breaks the spirit.
14 An understanding heart seeks knowledge;
    but fools feed on folly.
15 All the days of the needy are hard,
    but a happy heart has a continual feast. (Prov. 15:13-15)

These verse are good indicators in my own life to know if it is well with my soul. When the deepest seat of my life that controls the deepest emotions of my world, it is “well” and these are good outward indicators for me.

When there is a song in my heart and I sense that joy, it comes out. I have noticed when there isn’t a song in my heart (and I know that if I’m not humming), I sense a stirring and I have to check. I actually have to stop and ask, “What is going on?”

When it is well with my soul, I am seeking knowledge. My reading level is up. I thirst to know more. When my soul is agitated, I spend way too much time on social media or just perusing news sites.

When it is well with my soul, it honestly doesn’t matter if the outward circumstances are lousy. There is a sense of spiritual feasting that just won’t quit. The presence of the Lord has spread a feasting table in front of me and I am dwelling in his peace. I am beside quiet waters when the storms of life are raging.

It is well with my soul.
