I am preaching this Sunday on the parable of the wheat and the weeds. What is so challenging for me is to understand a couple of things:
1. Jesus works this all out in the end. We are so busy trying to work it out NOW. We want to identify the weeds and pull them. Jesus says, “Let this go. I’ve got it.”
2. This is another passage that is tough to deal with if you have a universalist bent. Of course, it CAN be dealt with, but I think the results would be pretty ugly.
But overall, what I am learning is we must live as salt and light IN this world. We live among the wheat AND the weeds. What gets sorted out in the end is NOT up to us. It is HIS Kingdom… and it’s going to come in complete fullness and deal with this stuff whether we like it or not.
So, what are you? Wheat? Weeds? Or, we can have MORE fun and say someone ELSE is a weed! ๐
