Freedom and Allegiance

Chuck Colson is incredibly articulate. He engages the culture. This article speaks to the First Amendment and the eroding place of Christianity in our culture. While I am not convinced of his comments regarding the differences between “freedom of religion” and “freedom of worship,” I am convinced we can reach a day where our government will erode the power of religion in the public square. I am not saying we will see that day. I am saying it’s a possibility.

The issue, in my view, is not about losing these freedoms. It is about our ability as Christians to stand up in a culture that will eventually carry anti-Christian biases. Governments come and go. We, as Christians, need to learn to have a firmer allegiance to the Kingdom of God, not the kingdoms of this world. This is our real weakness as American Christians. We tend to defend the Constitution more than stand on the Word. When real change happens and that Constitution is no longer upheld, we need to know our true allegiance.

  1. You said it right there.. being in allegiance to the Kingdom of God and not the kingdom of this world. Standing up for the Cause of Christ far above the present “cause” of the day. When Jesus spoke in public and did miracles, some listened and believed, others didn’t, and He was arrested. When Stephen proclaimed the LORD, he was stoned. The apostles met their end for proclaiming the gospel and living it out. Believers either hid or were captured then and even now in this present day. Still not turning back on the allegiance to their God. Count the cost.

If other nations through out history were bent on eradicating Christianity, no telling in time our nation could follow suit. The bottom line is where you are at with your God, when all ‘rights’ and ‘freedoms’ are stripped away?

  2. Challenging: A challenge the U.S. church needs to hear. We could take some lessons from our brothers and sisters in Christ who suffer daily in other countries because of their faith. They remain strong. Their allegiance is obvious. Is ours?

Totally agree. I sometimes find brothers and sisters more wrapped up in politics than anything else. They know all about Obama more than the Trinity. Uh..see…take this egg, it has a yoke…white stuff…shell…but it’s “one”…
