  • The matter of prayer

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Eph. 6:18)

  • Anchors for Living

All I need is mine… because I am HIS. 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the…

  • Prayer for the day

Lord, in this time may I tire of worthless pursuits. May my vision be filled with your majesty. May I throw off all distractions to follow the holy passion of your great name. 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the Lord. (Ps. 31:6, NIV)

  • My hardest struggle

Over the years I have watched the Lord lead me to so many victories. I have been amazed at the process. This is truly a “long obedience in the same direction,” as Eugene Peterson would put it. Yet, I keep struggling with one basic thing.

  • When we tire of prayer

“You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.” (Luke 9:41, NIV)

  • The attention needed in prayer

St. Simeon the New Theologian gave some insights into prayer. There is a “holy vigilance” that needs to take place. We don’t just walk into prayer, so to speak. We are to give attention to the life of prayer.

  • The ministry of Jesus

As I meditate on Luke 6, I am drawn once again to the simplicity of Jesus’ ministry: Pray Raise up powerful disciples Teach Demonstrate the power of the Kingdom All of it flowed out of prayer. I love Luke’s emphasis on prayer. It causes me to cry out, “Lord! I need to learn to pray!”

  • When we pray

When we come to the Lord with needs, we must come boldly. We must come with an expectation. Doubt doesn’t really belong. We may hesitate. We may wonder if anything can happen, but we can be reminded of the greatness of God.

  • The depths possible in walking with God

I am now moving between two pieces of writing that will not allow me to hurry. In our culture (and especially in a world defining “leaders as readers” and shame on you if you’re not reading a book a week..) this is hard. My reading does indeed move too quickly. These writing won’t let me, and I’m grateful.
