We tend to think “theology” and it’s really, too often, “white theology”
Theological frameworks have a tendency to get stuck. My own frameworks certainly have gone through that hardening over time. I need to realize my framework is certainly ONE framework, but not the only framework. In the past few years it has led to an expansion of theological voices in my life. Mainly at this point it has been black and…

In the (current) age of deconstruction, a cry of my heart
“Whatever version of Christianity we way we’re over is not the true Christian faith. I still long for a place where God reigns, and I still need the Spirit’s power.” — Mandy Smith, Unfettered

The Pharisee in me
“We don’t usually want to be Pharisees. But we all want to feel like Pharisees — standing on solid statements, having a place from which to argue. Given the choice between knowledge and life we prefer knowledge. It’s how Adam and Eve chose their fruit. We’ve been choosing the same fruit ever since.” — Mandy Smith, Unfettered

The paragraph that broke me
I am far more able to slowly make my way through Eugene Peterson’s biography than most other books because I have to stop and repent so often.

I was able to read more widely this year than probably ever before. More female authors. More authors of color. Here are a few that…

Caste is a disease and none of us is immune
Isabel Wilkerson’s newest book is Caste: The Origins of our Discontents. The first book I read from her was The Warmth of Other Suns, detailing the 100 plus year history of migration from South to North for Black Americans following the Civil War.

Book Review: Might from the Margins
I’ve known Dennis Edwards for a few years. He was pastoring a church in North Minneapolis where one of my sons and his wife attended. They raved about Dennis. It was a privilege to visit that church a few times and take in what God was doing in a hard part of town. This church was a shining jewel. Dennis…
