Engaging Scripture
A newer resource I saw on Biblegateway.com looks exciting. It is a resource to help people walk through several ways to engage Scripture. The main page is HERE. The explanation of “Scripture Engagement” is HERE. This looks to be an excellent resource for spiritual reading of Scripture.

Everyone gets an education
Reading through the tribute to Dallas Willard, Todd Hunter points out a saying of Dallas I have loved. Hunter puts it this way: “…’one thing is for sure,’ Dallas wrote, ‘you are somebody’s disciple. You (are learning) how to live form somebody else. There are no exceptions to this rule.’” I remember Dallas saying something similar: Everyone gets an education.…

The prophetic voice
As I ponder Daniel 2 this week to prepare for next Sunday: 1. Can we, as believers, learn to speak to the culture? 2. Can we hear from God to speak to the culture? 3. Can we boldly believe we WILL hear from God to speak to the culture?

It was all because of a diet?
We are beginning a series this Sunday I am calling “Allegiance.” It is a series on the life of Daniel and the three Hebrew friends. My goal is to reflect on the lives of people who lived in a truly hostile environment and still carved out their deep faith in God to not only “live for God” but… hold on…

Living in Babylon
I am beginning a series on the life of Daniel. My study this week takes me through Joyce Baldwin’s little commentary in the Tyndale series. It’s a solid resource I’ve had for years. One of the reminders from Daniel’s life was his solid faith in Yahweh. He was being forced to learn a polytheistic culture, but his faith didn’t keep…

Am I willing to be “Exhibit A?”
Transformation of the heart, soul, and mind isn’t done in a vacuum. This isn’t a “me and Jesus” effort. This is a BODY OF CHRIST effort. We need to surrender our ideals about “rugged individualism” and see the benefit of the Body of Christ. Walking in true transformation means I need to be willing to be “Exhibit A.” I’m willing…

Bible Study Tools
I am using more digital sources than ever in my study. It is interesting to me that the MORE I have paid for something… the higher the level of aggravation. First of all, Biblegateway is free. It’s beauty is I can look up Scripture quick, it has a huge number of translations, and it could be utilized to store online…

Loving religion more than God
A sentence from Gary Burge’s commentary on John (The NIV Application Commentary) hits hard. It is a reflection on John 5 and Jesus’ accusation toward the religious leaders: They love the religious life, but they have forgotten how to love God. Ouch. A lot of things can be more of an, “Oh me!” rather than an “Amen!” God, help me!

My lifelong love of Scriptures
I was reflecting on some key moments in my own life when the study of Scripture had a tremendous impact on my life with a class yesterday. Then the thought hit me, “EVERY significant shift in my life happened out of studying the Word.” Shifts in ministry emphasis, where I did ministry, key decision points… prayer and the Scriptures were…

Online Bible Resources
Occasionally when I add in a text reference I link the text to Biblegateway.com. I am part of their “blog gridder” team, which means… well… I have no idea what it means. Just a badge to put on my blog and make me look cool. But Biblegateway is an excellent tool for online Bible resources. I use it to compare…
