• Who IS my neighbor?

We all are tempted to define “neighbor” so we don’t have too much discomfort in our lives. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, the young Jewish leader wants to feel good about his life. He tries to justify his own goodness, leading to a very uncomfortable story from Jesus. NT Wright has this application to the parable:

  • We have easily turned aside time after time

We have the white comfort of not wanting to pay attention anymore. George Floyd is SOOOO 2020. We’ve moved on… except we haven’t. Violence is still perpetrated because of skin color. We can just afford to ignore it and call it “moving on.”

  • Deep prayers that carry us

A few weeks ago I preached in my home church on the subject of prayer. It was a basic reminder that we, as Anglicans, have the Book of Common Prayer to help in times of prayer. It is a wonderful tool.

  • It’s not CRT… It’s RACISM

We just can’t help ourselves. We say the quiet parts out loud these days. I would like legislation passed banning WRT… White Replacement Theory

  • The training of the mind

I pray these prayers with the saints and my life is challenged. I find myself too often saying, “The heart is willing but the flesh is weak.” Give me, O Lord, a steadfast heart, which no unworthy thought can drag down; an unconquered heart, which no tribulation can wear out; an upright heart, which no unworthy purpose can tempt aside.…

  • Transitions

There aren’t really “moments” of transition. They often appear that way, but the truth is transition is always a part of life. We are always “on the way.” We are on the way from birth to childhood. Those around the newborn meeting their every need. Teaching them along the way. Preparing them for those first steps, those first words, those…

  • We must confront our sin

I will continue to post about our deep-seated racism as the story unfolds from Buffalo, NY. For us as whites, I am still stunned when a motive is made clear, I still have friends who say, “Well, it will be interesting to get the whole story.” So… I will still keep at this.

  • Deep rooted problems of our nation

White supremacy. Nationalism. “Replacement theory.” These cannot be ignored. They must be faced and dealt with head on. I barely knew this was an actual theory. The theory was conceived in the early 2010s by Renaud Camus, a French author who has written about fears of a white genocide, arguing that immigrants who give birth to more children represent a…

  • “True America”

We have to get over ourselves. This sin is deep and we lack repentance. God help us! This chart shows the overwhelming blindness to what “America” is among whites.

  • The grief in our culture

The tragedy of Buffalo, NY this weekend where a young man believed the propaganda of white nationalists, too matters “into his own hands,” and walked into a store with the intention of killing black people. It is crushing. LORD! How long?
