Somehow the “red states” think they are “pro-life” and will still find ways to kill people.
After botching a series of executions by lethal injection, the State of Alabama is planning to use nitrogen gas to put condemned prisoners to death. The first execution will amount to a human experiment, because neither Alabama nor any other state has ever tried to kill people this way.
And first up is a man convicted of a murder-for-hire where the jury didn’t have unanimous consent to execute, but the judge overrode the jury, because, you know, “pro-life.”
A new method for killing that even vets won’t use to euthanize pets anymore.
A state bent on performing executions might be one where they can at least get it right. Alabama doesn’t even do that!
What past executions amply demonstrate is that the State of Alabama is not competent at performing the task. It is one thing to “botch” an execution, which is commonly understood to mean that an execution caused unnecessary agony or showed gross incompetence by the execution team. Alabama has botched four of the nation’s nine known botched executions since 2018.

A true “pro-life” position would do everything possible to cover the sanctity of life “womb to tomb.” It is to also understand the nuances in that position and how incredibly complicated it is to hold that position. I mean… I’m not very good at this. I am indeed challenged by mass murderers and racists who make their mission to kill as many as possible.
But the “pro-life” side of conservative politics can’t be bogged down with “nuance.” It has one tiny slice of a view and holds to it with tenacity that will vote for convicted felons who simply call themselves “pro-life” in the tiny way the “right” approves of.
I can’t be “right” or “left” on this. This is not good enough.
And, for God’s sake, could we at least look at how horrible we honestly value LIFE in this state?
