A few weeks ago there was a song that was sung in a prayer service as our diocese prepared to elect a new bishop. It was new so it was hard to follow and sing. I knew it was probably a newer one from another source so I looked it up. It’s a beautiful song to listen to and the words were so moving to me.
Looking back, I realize those words were preparing me for my grief. It’s become even more meaningful for me now.
I will praise on the mountain
And I will praise you when the mountain is in my way
You’re the summit where my feet are
So I will praise You in the valleys all the same
No less God within the shadows
No less faithful when the night leads me astray
‘Cause You’re the heaven where my heart is
In the highlands and the heartache all the same
