I have thought for years the issue with Putin has been to reconstruct the old Soviet Union. Okay… I haven’t thought MUCH about it. It’s just where I land given Putin’s violent history and aggression.

The fusion with the Russian Orthodox Church to the FSB (the intelligence branch of the Russian government) happened in 2002 and has generated the actions taken to this moment. It is the “power” of the Church fused with the power of government. It is a cautionary tale we are very good at ignoring in the West.
The beauty of the Church is also shining in this moment as Christian-led relief efforts tough the lives of millions of Ukrainian refugees.
