Our grand invitation

Matthew 7:13–14 (NIV)
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

I recently finished up another journey through the Sermon on the Mount and come away once again with awe. The Kingdom of God is so grand and powerful and our King invites us into this incredible life.

Yet, as I finished it this weekend and sat in contemplation, there is more disappointment in my thinking than at any point before I began this grand adventure almost 20 years ago. The American Church is failing and there has been invitation after invitation from the Spirit to veer off the massive 6 lane highway it’s created to lead people back to the narrow way of finding the Kingdom of God. We’ve pretty much stuck to the 6 lane highway model. It’s become our definition of “fruitful ministry.”

We are bent on continuing to build that massive highway and, in our thinking, make it as easy for people to “get to heaven” as possible. It’s not even in our realm of thinking that this way of thinking could possibly be wrong.

It’s not about how easy we make it for people to “get into heaven.” It’s about the massive task of getting heaven into us! It’s HIS Kingdom… here… now… as it is in heaven.

We face another grand invitation in these days: find that narrow path again. Find the goodness of the Kingdom! Find our good King… for he is good.

Quit buying the junk of this world’s thinking that the right candidate will deliver the right decisions to get you to the one issue you’ve festered over for 4 decades… Step away from the Kool-Aid table and find the goodness of the Kingdom of God. It’s a feast… and we’re settling for watered down powdered drinks!

We’ve pursued world solutions, world measurements of “success”, the world’s anger… and the way of the world that creates “us vs. them.”

It isn’t working. It may look like it, but that is the beauty of deception. Things look good on the showroom floor.

Find the narrow way. Enter into the goodness of the Kingdom of God. Follow our good King!
