I have generally kept to the Scripture reading of the Daily Office the past couple of years. It keeps me in both the Old and New Testaments. There are also those amazing times when the reading I am working through in the Daily Office collides with the current world.
In this time of upheaval I am now in Ezekiel. It makes for eye opening reading.
From this week’s reading:
10 “ ‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, 11 therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth. 12 When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, “Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”
(Eze 13:10–12)
What a reminder! We are too ready to listen to the voices we like rather than the voice of the Lord. When things are in upheaval, we who are with privilege just want “peace.” This isn’t that time. We need to seek justice. Peace will follow.
We build flimsy walls to try and protect our privilege peace. The Lord is tearing this down so we see the rage of those who have been marginalized. Do justice. Peace will follow. For all.
