As we are looking at the climax to the Gospels, as Jesus is moving with incredible purpose toward the arrest, the suffering, and the crucifixion, what are the things he would say to keep preparing his disciples?

What would he say to “sum it all up?”

It is the simplest of all things. It’s not even “New Testament.” It has been there all along. Israel complicated it. The Church still finds ways to complicate it. Yet… the simplicity!

In this Holy Week, Lord, help us to keep your gospel simple. That doesn’t mean it’s not hard, but we don’t need to complicate it!

Here is the simplicity of the Kingdom of God:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40, NIV)
