In writing to Sardis, there is an interesting note. Craig Keener points out in his commentary on Revelation that the two harshest rebukes in the seven letters of Revelation were to churches where even the cities don’t exist anymore.
Another interesting note is that with Sardis, there isn’t any mention of activity by Satan against them. They were already dead. He wasn’t bothered by them. Their reputation was good… but only with the world around them. Jesus had a different opinion.
Revelation 3:1
And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: ‘The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars:
I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
May our “reputation” not be only what is said by people around us, but also understanding that what we are doing, who we are, is favored by Jesus.
May 2017 be a year of FAVOR. Not favor from those around us, but from Christ himself.
