Daniel 5

The Babylonian Empire is on its way out. Belshazzar rules, but he is not his father. Daniel is called in to interpret once again, but he knows what is going on already.

Belshazzar foolishly offers Daniel riches if he will interpret the writing on the wall. 

Here is what we will be talking about Sunday at Heights Church. As we face the election on November 8 and the Christian “political right” is seeing its last gasps of influence fade away… there is the temptation to see the robes of Belshazzar and want them. That has been the mistake of the American church for a long time, “left” and “right.” We’ve been attracted to the rewards of being around power. But unlike Daniel, we don’t refuse the trappings. We’ve taken the trappings and paid the price.

The opportunity is before us to rise up like Daniel and refuse the robes of Belshazzar finally and speak and live a prophetic word to our culture.

This can be our time… or we can go the way of the handwriting on the wall.
