Awhile back I remember a headline or something on Facebook mocking the popularity of a worship song called “Oceans.”
I’m a pastor, but I can’t possibly keep up on all the music coming out today, so when I finally paid attention and I realized we actually sang that song… and I really LIKE that song.
Then, I ran across this article asking worship leaders about the popularity of the song. Outside of talking about how it was good for a female lead and “lovely lyrics,” there wasn’t much substantive about the WHY.
There are songs that simply “hit us” at certain times in our lives. This one came into the life of our congregation at an amazing time. We were truly stepping out into the unknown and somehow we knew it was God leading us. This song has something where deep really calls to deep for me.
You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand
The imagery in the song is powerful. For us as a church, it has the lyrics of our heart right now.
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
It is precisely where we are finding ourselves as a church… and we are finding his presence like never before. We find ourselves following the voice of the Spirit… and trusting. The waters are deep… and he leads. Somehow, we walk.
I love this song!
