Rock and the hard place

There is a saying where you can find yourself “between a rock and a hard place.”

Yesterday was one of those days. There are just those intense moments… or hours… or days… when the pressure is so intense. Even crying out to God seems laborious.

Psalm 40 is a cry for help. It is the psalmist assuring God he (the psalmist) is doing everything right. I have to be honest… I couldn’t do that yesterday. I could easily focus on all that was wrong, but couldn’t bring myself to sounding that good.

But I did know one thing:

I delight to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart.” (Ps. 40:8)

I could honestly cry out with that prayer.

But mostly, it was one long continuous cry of desperation!

Favor me, Lord, and deliver me!
Lord, come quickly and help me! (v. 13)

There are days I understand deeply I need his favor, his grace, and I know it’s nothing deserved.

Hear our prayers, O Lord!
