Okay, okay. I am not talking literal mansion. But if there was one… please take my request.
I want it next to John MacArthur’s mansion. He’ll have a big one. He’s become more righteous than us all.
When I was first in ministry I soaked in MacArthur’s style of expository preaching. I knew he didn’t think too much of the Charismatic movement, but I avoided his teaching on that stuff and just loved his treatment of just about every other text. I deeply admired his commitment to the exposition of the Scriptures.
Alas, somehow, John does not return the love. Over the years he has grown more and more hardened toward the Charismatic movement. I found out he thought I, as a Pentecostal, was merely a sideline issue. Pentecostals could be contained. (Obviously, MacArthur didn’t read very much church history past 1900).
Now, he is in the middle of what he calls a “Strange Fire” Conference. He is going all out to bash away at Charismatics. R.C. Sproul is there. (I hope I get my mansion right in between them, since Sproul has said Arminians are “barely” saved.) My biggest disappointment was seeing Joni Eareckson-Tada on the list.
I deeply admire Sproul, MacArthur, and Erickson-Tada. Turns out… the sentiment isn’t exactly returned.
Michael Brown has voiced his disappointment over the ordeal and invites a dialogue. That hasn’t happened.
Why do we need to keep subdividing the Body of Christ? Lord, have mercy. We have too much time on our hands!
