The Song We THINK We Hear

This is the longest I’ve spent in New Orleans. One of the thoughts I’ve had about the city is this: New Orleans sings its story. It is a city of incredible music. I heard a street musician playing some incredibl classical pieces on his cello. I’ve heard some great jazz. There is a “cajun” style of music that is fun.

It’s also a city where the music can fool you. It may sound “pleasing,” but there is no doubt there is another spirit that works in the city as well. There are times when the song may call out, “This is what you want,” and you end up the next morning thinking, “What in the world happened?” (I am NOT speaking from personal experienc on this one.) 😉

Songs will do that. The siren call in Homer’s work ofThe Odysseycalled sailors to come to close to the rocks and lose their ships.

I reflect on this wonderful city and Ephesians 6. We need a spiritual awareness around us. There are principalities and powers at work trying to sing a different song to us. We must be alert. We must be aware. The armor of God is vital.

One place I saw it in stark contrast was Jackson Square. On one side of Jackson Square is the incredibly beautiful Cathedral of St. Louis. It is magnificent. And in front of the church on any evening you can go up to any of at least six fortune tellers and have your aura read.

Songs can be deceiving. We need to be aware and alert.

I am missing my home church this Sunday as they go through Romans, Colossians, Ephesians, and Philemon. I will be working ahead to the next section of books of the New Testament. My prayers are with my great church as they keep PLUNGING into the incredible Word of God!

Listen to HEAVEN’S song! Our Father sings a beautiful song over us!
