That sums up Elijah’s response when Jezebel threatened his life. He had defeated the prophets of Baal, called down fire from heaven, then prayed for rain.
Now, he’s in the wilderness worn out and wishing he could die.
The word of the Lord came to him several times in the form of a question:
The LORD’s word came to him and said, “Why are you here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9, CEB)
We get knocked for a loop. The enemy just doesn’t care how great our last victory was. He keeps poking and prodding. And we end up flat on our backs just wishing for death.
God is kind to Elijah. He allows him rest and food.
But he doesn’t let Elijah wallow in pity. He comes to him and asks, “What are you doing here?”
Elijah is fed and then sent on the supernatural 40 day journey to Horeb. There, he is given instructions for what is ahead.
The place of apparent defeat is often the place where you find the next miracle. Elijah ends up in a 40 day miracle and then hears directly from God at the same mountain as Moses.
What are you doing here? Go ahead… get it out… Then, get up and get on to the next miracle. There is a supernatural journey ahead of you. Watch the miracle form out of the defeat. You are not done.
