Throughout the letters to the seven churches in the Book of Revelation, there is this admonition we read from most translations: “Anyone who has ears to hear, let them hear.”

The Common English Bible reads: “If you can hear, listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.”

If you can hear…

So much of the time we are just simply deaf. We don’t hear the voice of our Savior… and we say we are the people of God. For the churches in Revelation most of the reports are some good things mixed in with some correction. That’s a good description of most churches today. We have some good things going on, but there are areas where we may need correction. Here is the thing: Can we hear?

Or, are things going so well we just have the Spirit tuned out? Laodicea was completely tuned out. They had money. They had provision. Everything was going well. When the Spirit spoke, it was not complimentary. Did they hear?

In this season of Advent, let us truly hear what the Spirit wants to say to the church.
