The New NIV Study Bible

While I am not a fan of study Bibles, it is good to see Zondervan finally getting more products out with the NIV2011 text. This Bible looks fun. Lots of color.

In our Wednesday night Adult Bible study I notice fewer and fewer people bringing their own Bibles, so I am ordering a case of NIV Bibles. When I went to the site to check on prices, I couldn’t believe the vicious complaints in customer comments. Things like, “Don’t be fooled! This isn’t the 1984 edition anymore!” (To which I wanted to reply, “THANK GOD!”)

Let me know how it goes. I’d be interested in possibly going that direction myself, but am not yet persuaded.

  2. I know for public reading, the NIV is doing well. I really am growing to like the CEB, but there are some quirks in wording that get a little odd in public reading. PLUS, it’s still new and getting even paperback copies at this point isn’t cheap.

  3. Hello!

I’m Chris from the Zondervan Bible team. Thanks so much for your interest.

I thought you might be interested in flipping through some of the pages of the full-color NIV Study Bible via the NIV Bible Facebook page. You may also download a sample section of the Bible.

    1. Better yet, you could send me a review copy! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. I just bought the updated NIV Study Bible and am enjoying it immensely, and am also promoting it on my site. I, too, thank God it’s not the 1984 NIV. I do, however, miss the 1984 NIV’s rendering (as well as the TNIV’s rendering) of “sinful nature” and the like for the word “flesh.” I suppose I could still quote from the TNIV, haha, or perhaps just quote the NLT in such places.

If any study Bible can compete with the ESV Study Bible, it’s the updated NIV Study Bible, and for that I’m grateful!

I have noticed that the Southern Baptist Lifeway Christian Bookstore on campus at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, as well as the store in Raleigh, NC, and Cary, NC, are carrying the updated NIV, in spite of the outlandish, ridiculous resolution made against it at the Southern Baptist Convention earlier this year. Oh, the humanity! (I mean, Oh, the man!)

    1. I actually like “flesh” better for some reason. (I am getting to the point that in the small areas where I miss some particular wording, I am substituting the phrase I like anyway!) At any rate, thanks for the recommendation!

I’ve found the same true at the Lifeway store here. They are carrying BOTH the 1984 and 2011 editions.

    2. The last line you wrote cracked me up. I actually laughed out loud, which I needed this morning. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Sorry…the last comment was directed to WilliamWBirch. I forgot to make that clear!

And FYI…Family Christian Stores are selling certain editions of the new NIV Study Bible for 50% off the cover price. I scored one for about $35 yesterday, but those editions are also available online.

    1. Good to know about the NIV study Bible. Maybe I’ll break down… NOOOOO!!!!! I’m such a Bible junkie! lol
