The more I work through texts these days the more impressed I am with the NIV2011. It reads well publicly. Withe CEB leaves me wondering at times… The freshness of the language should catch on.
I still have a tough time with the slight Reformed bent of the ESV (at least by its advocates.)
Every time I drift away from the NIV I find myself drifting back.

I keep coming back to it, too, Dan. When I feel like it’s lost its luster and go looking for something with a little more soul, I come back and compare and say, “This is really good!”
I’m with you Dan. And the ESV (in my opinion) has numerous issues not least of which is its entire dependence upon the Massoretic text for the OT (which is nearly akin to a KJV-only notion) completely apart from the numerous obvious errors in the MT.
I like the NIV2011 in the poetic literature as well. I forgot about the ESV and the use of the MT.
I tend to use a variety of Bibles. I use Esword for my computer Bible program and look forward to when I can get NIV11 on it… at the moment I use the ESV and ISV on the computer and NIV, NLT and NIV Books of the Bible in hard copy.
Just wish it had an apocrypha…
Me, too! I told one of the translators that. It just isn’t their scope of tasks as a committee. It’s unfortunate, because that translator does work in the Septuagint. It would be a no brainer!
While this does not pertain to NIV2011…the NET will be publishing the Apocrypha before too long (it is still in process). I look forward to it as a fresh translation and for its tremendously helpful notes.
