In Dallas Willard’s book, The Divine Conspiracy, his whole point with the Beatitudes is they are not something to “achieve.” They are examples of current conditions. It’s “Exhibit A” of the Kingdom being able to touch even the outcasts of society.
As soon as my friend reads this he will know I am referring to him, so I want to keep this as vague as possible and let him know this is written to THANK GOD for him!
No matter how far down we find ourselves in life, the Kingdom can still touch us. We can hit rock bottom, and hit it again and again, and still look up and find Jesus coming after us. We haven’t gone beyond his reach.
When I have conversations with people who know how far down they’ve gone and they really DO want to love Jesus and they KNOW Jesus loves them, but they still find those hard times and bump their way through life, I come away rejoicing! I know the Kingdom of God is STILL working! It doesn’t always come out as smooth sailing! There are huge bumps along the way! But still, there is the Kingdom of God, ready to touch and heal our brokenness.
The worst time in my life when all hell was breaking loose and I was ready to throw it all in, the voice of the Spirit STILL found me and spoke into my ear, “I still have you.”
I know no one is beyond Kingdom blessing because he came and found me. So, when I have wonderful conversations with friends who truly do love Jesus and are still finding those bumps in the road, I rejoice. The Kingdom is still at work and they are finding out they have found a Love that will not let them go.
God’s rule and righteousness is available to ALL of humanity, not just those who have it all together. We just need to turn to the One who brings that Kingdom rule in reality.
