Not the subject matter that grabs headlines in Arizona. And, okay, maybe not “illegal.”
It’s us. Believers in Jesus Christ. WE are aliens. No matter what country we live in on this earth, we are aliens. Our true citizenship is not here. Our homeland is not found anywhere around here. Our true worth is not found here. We act like it. But, our true worth is really not here. We need to quit acting like what is HERE truly matters in our true value.
It’s tough. We like it here. We like the places we live, the things we have, the stuff we get to do. Nothing wrong with that, if we realize how temporary it is in our lives. And if we realize the real value is not in this life we have built here.
Peter’s words are so stark and we need to hear them clearly: “Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.” (1 Peter 1:17, NIV)
I like my stuff. I like my life. But the call of the Kingdom is to hold loosely to the stuff of this world. I have a passport that says my home is someplace else. That passport calls me to loyalty, not to where I am visiting, but to where I have my citizenship.
I am an alien here.
